the journey: Through reading and reflection, and facilitated activities, two cohorts of students built their pathways to classrooms that centred peace, justice, and equity. Classes 6 to 8 reflected on stories drawn from “One World” and “Sorry, Best Friend” by Tulika Books, while Classes 9 to 12 reflected on “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee. Each story / chapter was scaffolded by reflexive activities that invited the participants to think about themes of peace, conflict, justice, accountability, intersectionality, and decoloniality - but without the use of jargon. They reflected collectively and individually on the themes of repair in the face of harm, recognizing lived experiences, shifting away from conscious and unconscious bias, and leaning into community and solidarity over hyper-individualism.
